But that string can present some dangers too. Certain cats like to eat the string and depending on the length, it can quickly become a medical emergency.

When string becomes stretched out along the length of intestine, it will cause the intestines to become pleated just like the pleats in a drapery. The string is unable to be passed through the intestine when this happens. When a cat has been diagnosed with a string foreign body, the only way to remove the string is by performing surgery. Any delay in performing the surgery can be critical. The string can actually cause a "sawing" effect and cut through the intestine (especially if it is a long piece). Infection quickly develops which can be a life threatening situation. Many cats have died as a result of consuming string when the owners found out too late to be able to help the cat.

Always keep track of your cat's toys, especially items that have string attached. When the string becomes detached from a toy, it is best to get rid of it and not worry about the cat consuming the string. Be safe and review all of your cat toys from a safety perspective.
Blog:d3640419-26e0-4d0f-a85d-3426f198d81bPost:c0ab347e-66bc-4a1b-bd59-9160a2e8d67f
